Crack the shells, we hear wedding bells!!
Crab Boil Engagement Party
It’s crab season in the Pacific Northwest, and what better time to throw a party! This is a great way to get family and friends together.
You don’t have to live in the south to enjoy a delicious crab boil! We have incredible crab here in the PNW! My daughter decided it would be fun to do a crab boil engagement party for her and her fiance since we live on the water. I love to throw a great party and have never done a crab boil before, so off to Pinterest I went! lol
I thought it would be so fun if everyone could sit at the same table, and lucky me, our backyard was big enough to seat 50 people at one table! Well, actually it was 4 tables put together. I rented the chairs from a local rental company so I could have them all-match.
I found these awesome red plates at the dollar store and I have used them several times since then, I definitely got my money’s worth out of them. You never know what great discoveries you might find from the dollar store. I found the crab brown paper roll from Amazon. The roll was so big I have enough to do 20 more crab boils! But how fun is that paper?
The buckets are from Amazon, and I added the cute jute with a bow on them to jazz it up a bit. I will link all the bucket contents below.
Things you’ll need for the boil
- 60 qt. propane seafood boiler with basket hook
- 1 large box seafood boil seasoning
- 1/2 cup salt
- lots of lemons, sliced
- 10 cloves whole garlic, peeled
- 3 large onions, quartered
- 1 ear of corn per person
- 3 small red potatoes per person
- 1/2 lb. andouille sausage per person
- raw unshelled shrimp per person – 1/2 lb
- 1/2 of a crab per person
- White Wine! Perferable a Sauvignon Blanc from the Marlborough region of New Zealand!
The shrimp, crab, and other ingredients are plunged into the boiler to cook. When done, everything is strained out and poured onto a table covered with newspaper. I added melted butter to the table for dipping. I had bread on the table and a few salads (Caesar and Pasta) along with the crab boil. For an appetizer, we had clam chowder. All the food turned out amazing!
I loved adding the little extra touches to the table. The sunflowers were beautiful and had such a great pop of color. I also added the lanterns to the table for a nautical feel.
What to drink
Well, obviously I would not think of serving anything other than a beautiful crisp Sauvignon Blanc from the Marlborough region of New Zealand! This white wine goes perfectly with any kind of seafood and is so good. We also made a yummy Sangria. Sweets for the end!
I had the desserts ordered from a local gal that makes these amazing cookies and cake pops. Sooo delicious.
We had such a great time celebrating Anthony and Alissa and I think they really enjoyed themselves. Overall it was a huge success and everyone had a fabulous time.
I hope you enjoyed this post! Please let me know what you think and I would love to hear your ideas on your own crab boil.
Cheers, Stephanie
